Key problems in the forecasting of the geoeffectiveness of CMEs |
Abstract |
Coronal mass ejection is the most intense eruption from the Sun. When a CME arrived at the Earth, the south component of its magnetic field would interact with the Earth's magnetosphere and then produce geomagnetic storm. Thus, a main problem in the space weather study and forecasting is the geoeffectiveness of the CME. The keys problems in the forecasting of the geoeffectiveness of CMEs are: (1) Whether a CME would arrive at the Earth? (2) When a CME arrival the Earth? and (3) The south component of the magnetic field carried by the CME when it arrival the Earth. In recent, using the observations from SOHO, STEREO, SDO, WIND and other spacecraft, different authors studied the Sun-Earth connection of a CME from its eruption to its arrival Earth. The results obtained in these works can help us further understanding the key problems in the forecasting of the geoeffectiveness of CMEs. In this talk, we will introduce the recent advance in the study of the geoeffectivenss of CMEs. The main contents are: (1) Which parameters would influence the CME arrival the Earth? (2) Which parameters would influence the CMEs' arrival time? (3) How can we forecast the south component of the magnetic field carried by CME when it arrival the Earth. |
