PRESENTATION
Title : Progress on Solar Activity (Flares and Coronal Mass Ejections) Prediction in Space Weather Science
Abstract
A brief overview on recent process on predicting solar activity will be presented. Thanks to the advancement in observations, in particular, the unprecedented twin observations from STEREO spacecraft, our understanding about CME evolution has drastically increased. The prediction of CME arrival times at the Earth solely based on solar observations have increased from very poor to about five hours of accuracy, which is a great advancement in space weather prediction. However, many problems remain, such as on the issues of stealth CMEs and problem ICMEs. The theoretical advancement and difficulty in solar-based space weather prediction will also be discussed. The prediction of solar flares will be briefly highlighted.
