Title : Response of the Earth's magnetosphere and ionosphere to the small-scale magnetic flux rope in solar wind by the global MHD simulation
Abstract
We have studied the response of the Earth's magnetosphere and ionosphere to four types of small-scale magnetic flux ropes (SMFR) in solar wind by using a three-dimensional global MHD simulation. The simulation results show that the bow shock and magnetopause move in response to the IMF changes during the SMFR. The ionospheric phenomena show the different feature for four types of SMFR. However, the cross polar cap potential has over 20 kV for all of four types of SMFR conditions. It possibly support the growth phase condition for substorm triggering even though small scale solar wind and IMF conditions during the SMFR.
