EQUATORIAL PLASMA (BUBBLE / BLOBS / MSTIDs)

Equatorial plasma bubbles and blobs are plasma density irregularities in the low-latitude ionosphere, and can significantly disturb ground-satellite or inter-satellite communication links. In spite of the long history of this topic since 1920's, it is not yet precisely known what distance the bubbles/blobs lose their spatial coherence at. Nighttime Medium-Scale Traveling Ionospheric Disturbances (MSTIDs) occur mainly at mid-latitude regions such as Korea. They have wave-like structures, whose fronts are elongated from pole-west to equator-east direction.

EXPECTED RESULTS FROM THE SNIPE MISSION
• Coherence length of bubbles / blobs / MSTIDs and their seasonal variations
• Wavefront directions of bubbles / blobs / MSTIDs and their seasonal variations
