ADDITIONAL SCIENCE ELECTROMAGNETIC ION CYCLOTRON (EMIC) WAVES

Pc-1 waves (0.2-5 Hz) or EMIC (Electro Magnetic Ion Cyclotron) waves are attributed to the EMIC instability driven by proton temperature anisotropy in the equatorial magnetosphere. The waves have been considered one of the major sources that can precipitate the energetic charged particles into the atmosphere through pitch angle diffusion via wave-particle interactions. So the EMIC observations at LEO satellites might contribute to the study of possible loss mechanisms of energetic particles from the radiation belt.

도요샛 관측으로 예상되는 결과
• Observations of EMIC waves in the lower frequency range below 0.2 Hz by using multi-satellites of SNIPE
• Spatial characteristics such as spatial scale, latitudinal and longitudinal distribution, and durations of EMIC waves
• Conjugate observation of wave propagation at the ground and multi-point satellite measurements (SNIPE, ERG, GOES, and VAP, etc.)
