FIELD-ALIGNED CURRENTS (FACs)

Field-aligned currents (FACs) observed in the Earth Auroral region play an important role in linking the magnetosphere to the ionosphere and cause magnetic field disturbance and affect the structure and change of the aurora. Although many studies have been carried out on the formation and development of FAC, they are not yet clearly understood. Particularly, multi-point observations have not been studied yet. In order to clearly understand the structure and development of FAC, multi-point observations are needed. In the previous research, FAC has been studied mainly using single satellite observations. Recently, multi - satellite observations such as Cluster, ST 5 and Swarm have been conducted. Therefore, many aspects of FAC generation principle and structure are still not clearly understood.

EXPECTED RESULTS FROM THE SNIPE MISSION
• Characteristics of field-aligned current in Earth's aurora region
• Statistical analysis of large amplitude magnetic perturbations
• Verification of curlometer method to estimate current density by using multi-point observations
